Bottlenose Dolphins 4/28/25
I was sound asleep after a very late night editing prom photos when I got a call from my friend Chris alerting me that there were dolphins at Rockaway Beach and that they might be headed north. I gathered my wits (what’s left of them) and my camera gear and headed to the pier in case they indeed were headed north. In fact they ended up heading north and I got a few shots of them from the pier. Given the speed they were headed when I saw them, I decided the best bet to catch them again was at Mussel Rock. However, dolphins being dolphins, they decided to stop around the Esplanade area and play in the waves. I had to just sit there watching them through binoculars as they played and jumped in the waves, wishing I had stopped there instead. Eventually they headed my way and I caught a few shots as they cruised past Mussel Rock.
Photos 6-8 were taken at a long distance (this was while they were near Esplanade, playing in the waves) so for Photo6 I went with a wider view to include the Pelicans, and Photos 7-8 are very tight crops.
