Great Horned Owl, Pt Reyes 4/16/24
I was able to catch up with this Great Horned Owl early in the morning before sunrise, and then again after sunset. They are such beautiful and fascinating birds. Often heard much more than seen. These photos were quite a photographic challenge. There was very little light and I was at a bit of a distance. I was initially hesitant to post some of the shots because they were a bit soft. But after looking at them more, I reminded myself that a photo doesn’t have to be “perfect” to be beautiful and interesting. I especially love the big eyes peering out from the bushes in photo2, and in photo3 I love that you can tell it’s a Great Horned Owl even though it’s just a silhouette.
Yes, the date is correct. It’s been almost two years since I took these photos. That gives an indication how large my backlog is! Although even I was a little surprised to discover how few of the photos from this outing I had gotten through. So there will be more coming.
