Heads and Tails, Gray Whale San Francisco Bay 3/15/26

I was aboard the Kitty Kat again with San Francisco Whale Tours today. We were fortunate to find a few Gray Whales again. In the first shot, the lighting, water and whale position were just right that I was able to see the whale while it was underwater. I watched as it moved just under the surface and could tell when it was about to come up, so I was able to have the camera pointed and focused right where and when it came up. In the remaining shots, the whale was showing an unusual propensity for providing views of its fluke. Gray Whales tend not to raise their flukes as much as Humpbacks.

It was a beautiful day on the bay, and a privilege and pleasure to spend time with these beautiful animals.
