Humpback Whale Calf Shows What He Can Do With His Tail, Pacifica 9/3/26
This is the calf of a mother/calf pair that’s been hanging around Pacifica for at least the last week. They are typically side-by-side, practically joined at the hip, and that’s how they were when I started filming them. I had decided I had enough footage and was about to bring the drone home when I saw the two separate. In previous encounters, when the calf was doing something “energetic”, it was away from its mother. Maybe mom says “OK junior, go do your thing.” So I decided to follow the calf, and sure enough he put on one heck of a show.
I have gathered a lot of footage of the mother/calf pair and I have a plan percolating in my brain about doing a long(ish) video of just the two of them. Stay tuned!
