American Kestrel strafing Red-tailed Hawk - Mori Point, Pacifica 10/27/25
While I was videoing the Red-tailed Hawk, I was seeing a bird taking strafing runs at it. It started while the hawk was sitting in a tree and continued when the hawk took off, as well as when the hawk landed and took off again. With my face in the back of the camera and the intruder moving very fast, I couldn't make out what it was. After reviewing the footage I was delighted to discover it was an American Kestrel. It was a lot of fun videoing the two of them. The Kestrel was clearly not happy about the Red-tailed Hawk being there, but the hawk seemed unfazed by the Kestrel. When the hawk landed, it picked something up, but I couldn't quite make out what it was. My best guess is a beetle.
