Jumpin Jehoshaphat - Bottlenose Dolphins 7/29/25
My friend Chris and I were doing a bit of dolphin chasing again today. I managed to catch some shots at the pier, then Rockaway, then back at the pier again. While at Rockaway, Darrin joined me, and we saw what Darrin referred to as a Sea World style jump from one of the dolphins. I think that described it pretty well, and was the highest jump I've seen from our local flipper friends. I was fortunate enough to have captured it.
The photos are not in chronological order. I started with a couple highlight photos. Photo4 gives a bit of the sense of place - they were jumping right off the point of rocks at the north end of Rockaway. We were standing in the middle of Nick's parking lot, so all of the jumping shots are pretty long shots and they're cropped in pretty tight, but Photo4 gives a wider view. After that are some selected photos from two of the jumps, and then a couple closeup ID shots.
