Pacifica Pier damaged and closed, 6/4/26

Some serious damage appears to have occurred to the pier overnight. This morning someone alerted the city and when they came to take a look, they immediately closed the pier and the surrounding area. I am not a structural engineer and have no particular inside knowledge, all I can do is describe what I saw. It appears there is a crack that goes all the way across the pier and down to the ground. The railing, floor and sides are all showing serious damage. It’s almost like the whole pier was “snapped”. The city will need to have engineering crews come out and assess the damage and safety of the area. While I’m not an expert, it looks to me like the entire pier will likely be closed for quite a while.
